Our Lodge
Celebrating 140 Years and the train keeps running
Hiram Lodge No. 13 is an active Masonic lodge based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, recognized for its deep historical ties to the state's railroad era.
History and Background
- Founding (1885): Originally established in San Marcial, New Mexico, after the Santa Fe Railroad built shops in the community in 1880. It is officially classified as one of New Mexico's historic "railroad lodges".
- Locomotive Heritage: In honor of its origins, the lodge’s banner continues to display images of Gilded Age locomotives.
- The Hiram Gavel: In the 1980s, the lodge gained national attention for the "Hiram Gavel," a ceremonial gavel made of black walnut, silver, and turquoise. It traveled to Hiram-named lodges across 42 states before returning to Albuquerque for the lodge's centennial in 1985.
